Principle of PRES-VAC Cargo Pumps
Herning Shipping, Denmark - Mr. Tom Bach Mortensen, Technical Manager: "Our experience with PRES-VAC magnet-driven pumps began in 1998 onboard M/T "Marianne Theresa", a stainless steel chemical carrier, where we did comparative tests for two years. Results and performance impressed, and we decided for the magnet-driven pumps for our two recent new buildings (M/T "Maria Theresa" and M/T "Laila Theresa"), one of which is a duplex stainless steel chemical carrier. We have now used the magnet-driven pumps totally 3 years in an intensive discharge and tank washing pattern, say, every 3-4 days. All sorts of chemicals and heavy SG cargoes have been handled. From a daily operational point of view, the pre-programmed pump control is splendid. It allows us the comfort of knowing that the pumps are always operating under ideal conditions without risk of dry-running, in particular during tank washing: Stop, re-start, and r.p.m. control is automatically taken care of with adjustment to actual needs, and no cargo or washing water escapes when the pumps are shut down. Moreover, the magnet-drive system allows us to guarantee our customers absolute leak-free cargo handling. We have experienced no problems and have in fact not needed any maintenance so far. This 3-year performance is remarkable from any point of view and simply the best we have experienced in our fleet to date. All our expectations have been fully met."
CARGO TANK VENTING EQUIPMENT Valve Type HS-ISO High velocity p/v vent type HS-ISO is the first non-oscillating valve. It combines the best of non-hammering weight loaded valves with the best of magnet loaded valves, whilst avoiding the downsides, in particular pressure surge and cargo vapour (VOC) loss. Type HS-ISO is designed with the guidelines of ISO 15364 in mind and represents the highest degree of safety and maintenance-free operation available. For the user this means inspection, cleaning, and part replacement on-deck without dismantling and lapping of seats. Further, that cleaning takes place based on visual inspection, i.e., when needed and not according to a theoretical schedule. The net clearance through the valve provides full capacity regardless of poor inside coating/corrosion without risk of jamming. Essential wearing parts such as discs, seats, and flame arrester can be removed from the exterior (use of modules containing all wear parts) in a matter of 1-2 minutes for complete overhaul to as-new-condition. The absence of pressure surge provides unsurpassed vicinity between valve setting and alarm. This allows extra safety margin or increased setting for VOC saving without compromising traditional alarm points. False alarms simply do not happen: any alarm is certain indication of a non-functional valve rather than the odd pressure surge. EC type examination certificate for the pressure/vacuum valve type HS-ISO is issued by MED EC nominated body - FORCE-Dantest Cert.
